Yea, what's the difference between the VSX-2012 and VSX-D2012? I guess we'll have to wait for the online vendor to finish posting specs for the D model. Strange how Pioneer announces new products, recently with gross errors. Then, release products to dealers who typically don't specialize in the numerous makes and models they carry, and who can't tell you much about the products they sell. Formerly, Pioneer did a good job of posting on-line informative brochures and user manuals for its products. That seems to be a thing of the past, or it shouldn't take three months to post a simple brochure (without gross errors, and a warning that important specs are subject to change.without notice). I thought that's what the information age is all about.getting new information out rapidly.

It appears that the information age in Pioneer's case isn't working for those of use who have been spoiled by it. Perhaps, Pioneer doesn't realize many savy customers read 100+ page user manuals or assume that we don't have the skills to predict product satisfaction by reading user manuals. Now we have to rely on a more primitive and costly means of determining product satisfaction: 30-day return policies, urg. Ok, I emailed the vendor (that listed a VSX-2012 and a VSX-D2012) about the differences between the two models. I have yet to receive a response, but I noticed the vendor has removed the D-model from the website.

So, the D2012 may have been a mistake. I emailed Pioneer about some specifics on the VSX-2012, whether it actually had automatic MCACC (the vendor didn't make this clear) and how I may obtain an owners manual for the 2012. Their response pointed me to their press release and asked that I order the owners manual. I called and ordered the manual which is back-ordered. I'd considered the 53/55, but I was disappointed that they can't bi-amp the front speakers like the 43/47/49 models did.

Though 47s are now at closeout prices, I'm trying to find something cheaper. So, before ordering a closeout priced 43, I wanted to see what I'd miss by not going to a 2012. The manual is really required to make this determination. As we've both noticed, the 2012 appears to be another variant of the Elite 53/55 at a lower list price without the Elite badge. The 2012 is the highest in a line of x12 series. I nEurope you actually had the 1012 and 2012 introduced before the 812 and 912.

I am not sure but I think the MSRP on a 2012 in Europe was somewhere around $1300 to 1600. As far as I know it does have Automatic MCACC and even some equalizing functions. I compared the ins and outs and there are some differences with the 55. Mostly it doesn't have an i-link. But there were even some in and outs that were not on the 55.

The amp design seems to be the same. Chassis design and trafo size are hard to tell because I didn't find weight specs for the 2012.

I would however venture that it is indeed very similar to the 53 and 55 without the Elite badge. I've seen it at a German dealer who's one of my best friends. He said it was really good and he sold a lot of those. He is converted because when I told him some months before I wanted to buy a 49TXi he just laughed at me. After having heard and tried the line he likes it and has become an authorized dealer. I got the last laugh. The 1012 is the smallest model he sells since it's quite a high-end store.
